So it's that kind of goregous Autumn week that makes me want to escape the office and stroll to the harbour, coffee in hand. Even better, the Sydney Writers' Festival has begun, which means I can do all of the above and still hear some terrific sessions.
I'll be participating in two events this year, and attending many more. If you're free tonight, I'd recommend joining us at 'Is There Hope in Sydney?' It's a panel discussion between the excellent James Arvanitakis, Pat Fensham, and myself. We're going to be discussing everything form the nature of hope in politics, to what Sydney might look like in 2030 (and whether any of us would want to live there). It's at the Museum of Sydney from 7pm. Details here: Is There Hope in Sydney?
The second event isa nice segueway into related territory. Imagined Futures will be a discussion between feminist scholar Lynne Segal and futurist Richard Watson which I'll chair, and it will range across issues such as the future of political movements, on technological change and activism, and how our recent histories limit or enchance our capacity to imagine different ways of life. Should be fascinating - it's on Sunday arvo at 5pm.
Hope to see you there, or just down at the Wharf, coffee in hand.
