Curating a film show - for Anode

A Rather Unusual Sydney Festival...

Thu 25 Sep 2008

Now this was fun. And hard. I was asked to curate a show called 10x10 - where I choose ten people, who choose their ten most interesting films. Not favourites, not the suppsed 'classics' that crop up in everyone's Top Films List (yawn), but films you love that are rarely seen. The 100 films then act like a social recommendation engine; people can see glimpses, be tempted, maybe search out the films that intrigue them. It was brutally difficult to whittle down the list. It hurt. But we got there.

To see the upcoming Anode events, look here: http://anode.net.au/.

To read about 10x10, have a squiz at this: 10 x10 - The Show

And these are the ten people I tapped to pick their top 10 films of note:

1. Jo Dyer (Film producer; Executive Producer of STC)

2. Emile Zile (Artist and filmmaker, Amsterdam)

3. Lawrence English (Musician; founder of Room 40 label)

4. Hamish Ford (Cinema studies academic)

5. Deborah Kelly (Artist)

6. Fenella Kernebone (Arts journalist)

7. Karen Murphy (Art Director)

8. Gideon Obarzanek (Artistic Director of Chunky Move)

9. David Teh (Art curator, Thailand)

10. Edwina Throsby (Director; Editor of ABC Fora)

Come and have a look. Stills from the films will be projected in the city, in a bar, and in the Domain carpark this weekend.
